50 Years of Excellence: Pipers Brook’s Award-Winning Sparkling

For 50 years, Pipers Brook Vineyard has been at the forefront of cool-climate winemaking in Tasmania. Their dedication to showcasing individual sites and expressive winemaking has resulted in wines that truly reflect the region. In 2024, their 2017 Late Disgorged was awarded Best Sparkling Wine in Show at the International Cool Climate Wine Show (ICCWS), a recognition of the winery’s expertise in sparkling wine production.

The Art of Extended Aging

The 2017 Pipers Brook Late Disgorged is the result of careful vineyard selection and winemaking precision. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay parcels from an exceptional vintage were nurtured through partial barrel aging and skilful blending before tirage. After more than five years on lees, the wine was disgorged, revealing a sparkling wine of remarkable finesse and complexity.

Long aging on lees contributes to its depth of flavour, while Tasmania’s naturally cool climate ensures freshness and vibrancy. The result is a wine with delicate beading, bright acidity, layers of citrus, toasted brioche, and subtle nutty undertones—an expression of both patience and place.

The Pipers Brook Experience

Visitors to Pipers Brook Winery can immerse themselves in the heart of Tasmania’s cool-climate wine country. The scenic drive through vine-covered hills leads to a welcoming cellar door, where guests can explore a portfolio of wines that includes crisp whites, elegant Pinot Noir, and, of course, their award-winning sparkling.

A highlight of the experience is the Wine & Food Pairing Experience, which brings together the best of Tasmanian produce with Pipers Brook’s wines. Thoughtfully curated pairings showcase how the wines interact with local cheeses, fresh seafood, and seasonal small plates. Those looking to relax can enjoy the outdoor terrace and lawn, enjoying a glass while soaking up the beauty of the region.
